The Shops
The Problem
A household shopping list tells you what to buy, but not where it makes sense to buy it. Comparing the same products across nearby shops takes time, and different pack sizes can make the cheapest-looking price a poor comparison.
The Approach
I built The Shops for Australians who regularly shop across more than one retailer. It combines one shared list with daily prices from Coles, Woolworths, Aldi and Panetta, so each item can be compared before the trip rather than in the aisle.
- Daily price updates and unit prices alongside each product, making pack-size comparisons clearer
- Cross-shop product matching, with the option to choose exactly which products should be compared
- One shared list that updates in real time across a household through a simple join code
- Barcode scanning and cross-shop search to add products without retyping them
- Single-shop and split-trip totals, so a household can decide whether another stop is worth it
The Outcome
The Shops is now available free on iPhone and iPad. It gives households a practical way to see where their list is cheapest, keep everyone working from the same list, and make the call before they get to the shops. Core price comparison and household sharing are free, with no ads or tracking across apps.
